🐌 About Lady Astrid’s Snails

Welcome to Lady Astrid’s Snails, a heart-led freshwater snail rescue and breeding program based in Elyria, Ohio. What began as a small curiosity has grown into a passion for ethical aquatic care, education, and rescue.

My interest in snails started unexpectedly. Growing up, I used Japanese trapdoor snails as fishing bait, never realizing how intelligent and important they truly were. Years later, while caring for crayfish from a local creek, I began researching algae eaters that could safely share their tank. That search led me to mystery snails, and from there everything changed.

Today, Lady Astrid’s Snails focuses on breeding healthy freshwater snails while also operating as a small-scale rescue. I regularly accept unwanted or surrendered snails, rehabilitate them when needed, and rehome them with responsible aquarists across the U.S. Every animal in my care receives clean water, proper nutrition, and attentive handling.

I work with a wide variety of species, including:

• Mystery Snails (Pomacea diffusa)

• Ramshorn Snails (Planorbella duryi, Planorbarius corneus)

• Rabbit Snails (Tylomelania spp.)

• Nerite Snails (Neritina natalensis, Clithon spp.)

• Japanese Trapdoor Snails (Cipangopaludina japonica)

• Assassin Snails (Clea helena)

• Blueberry Snails (Viviparidae sp.)

Shrimp are also available, including:

• Ghost Shrimp / Glass Shrimp (Palaemonetes paludosus)

• Blue Dream Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi)

• Other Neocaridina shrimp, available occasionally

Education is a core part of my mission. I share snail and shrimp care tips, water parameter guidance, feeding advice, and behavior insights to help both beginners and experienced aquarists succeed.

All livestock ships from Elyria, Ohio, with options for local pickup, meetups, and cold-safe shipping when weather allows.
