Vendor Biography
R&R Aquatics‘ mission is to sustainably breed fish, invertebrates, and other marine life for the aquarium hobby. We believe aquacultured fish are the key to both enjoying natural water habitats in the home while keeping their natural ecosystems undisturbed. All of our fish, invertebrates, plants, corals, and other marine and freshwater organisms are bred and raised by our in-house Marine Biologist. We have 15 years in the Aquarium hobby, as well as 5 years of experience breeding various species of marine and freshwater life. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. We look forward to assisting you in achieving your aquarium dreams!
Who We Are:
Ryan Thornton: One of our two founders, he is a Marine Corps veteran with a background in Electronics engineering and is also our in-house Marine Biologist. Ryan served 5 years on active duty and was honorably discharged in 2018. Upon leaving the military, he pursued his career in Electronics Engineering working for various DoD contractors, while maintaining his aquarium hobby in his off time. Never quite giving up on his childhood dreams of one day becoming a Marine Biologist, and with the support and encouragement of his wife, Ryan attended Unity Environmental University, obtaining his degree in Marine Biology and Aquaculture and forever changing his career. Upon receiving this degree and starting our own research on coastal New England Ecosystems, he decided to take his career a step further and start an Aquaculture business to breed fish for the aquarium hobby, in hopes of using profits to fund important research for our coastlines that may otherwise be forgotten.
Rachel Black-Thornton: The second of our founders and Ryan’s wife, Rachel Black is an aspiring photographer and lover of the ocean. She first became interested in marine life during childhood after watching the movie “Jaws”. This started an obsession with sharks and a desire to learn and understand as much about them as possible and led to a deep passion for all marine life. Rachel is interested in pursuing an aquaculture business in order to give people in the aquatics hobby access to interesting and beautiful animals without disturbing their natural ecosystem.
